Rest as your own true nature
Coming home to Being
In the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism they refer to the authentic nature of the mind as being that of a clear, expansive sky. Unchanged by the weather passing through, never torn by lightening or soaked by rain, it remains as itself, ever clear and allowing of whatever appears and passes through.

Much like that sky, we experience a coming and going in the form of thoughts and feelings, sounds, life events etc., as they appear in consciousness/awareness . However unlike the sky we are very much attached and influenced by the content of our minds and one may even go as far to say ,"at the mercy of our thoughts and feelings"! We are easily pulled into this or that story, either in opposition to or wanting to hang onto the moment , firmly living in the belief; as the philosopher Descartes suggested " I think therefore I am!" But are we really just our thoughts and feelings?

In the direct approach to meditation we come to know our most intimate sense of what we might call ' Being'. From this place we seem to be prior to, yet include all the content of this moment. This fundamental and intimate sense of "I am" is not the ego .
In fact we come to realise that the seperate self is like a mirage , a patterning of conditioned thoughts and feelings and that the sense of what we call.. I ..at its source, is already free and intimate with all things.
With this realisation the mind automatically comes back to its natural state, clear like sky, effortlessly knowing and allowing of thoughts and feelings to come and go, leaving you relatively free from much of the power of the limiting, conditioned way of being, that creates so much dis-ease in our lives.
However a momentary glimpse of what we might call 'awakening' to your true self, may not be enough to see through the dream of seperate self permanantly and so we may choose to commit to an ongoing work to deepen, stabilise and embody this awakening to 'Self'.
When we come to know ourselves as "being"and live more and more from the natural state ,we live in tune with the whole mystery of life and as a unique expression of that life .

At Metropolitan monk I offer simple easy to follow , experiential practices that guide the listener into the natural state of being and provide the tools and support they will need for an ongoing, ever deepening, lived experience of the natural state.
Metropolitan Monk
I spent some years on and off in a monastic setting, in the belief that this is where I would find what I was looking for as others had for millennia. But in my case, I was wrong. I found what I was looking for in London, one of the busiest cities in the World. A metropolis, but one where I was introduced to the direct approach teachings of non duality and Advieta vedanta etc. I still have a fairly monastic heart and hence "Metropolitan monk "
Direct approach " mindfulness is what is on offer and I hope a bridge between ; what seems to have become a gap, between mindfulness meditation and the non dual experience of awakening to authentic self and the integration of what the Buddha called ,the two truths of absolute and relative existence.

Mindfulness meditation will ease suffering and improve your wellbeing, no doubt about it , but it was designed for spiritual awakening ! so why not come and explore what that is and what you are at your deepest, most intimate sense of self.
